It grows to a height of 7′ or more producing 20-22 harvestable leaves per plant. The light green leaves average 14″-16″ in width and 20″-24″ in length, with good yield and heavy weight. Matures in 65-70 days. Leaves air cure to a light yellow brown. The flavor is light and mild. How to Grow Tobacco Growing your own tobacco is so easy and not dissimilar to growing tomatoes. Place commercial seedling compost into a tray and soak the soil with water and allow the excess water to drain off. Sprinkle the tobacco seeds onto the surface of the damp soil.
